Weighing a regenerative care plan
What happens at a first visit?
Bring a short account of the problem and a list of what you already take. Leave with an explanation of the next step, even if that step is more assessment.
Prepare a short account.
Put the everyday problem first. Explain what you hope to change and what has already been tried.
- When did the problem begin?
- What makes it better or worse?
- What medicines, supplements, or other care have you tried?
- What would a useful improvement look like?
Can the visit start online?
In telehealth, you receive care from a distance using video, phone calls, or written messages online. “Clinician” means the health professional assessing you and talking through treatment.
The medical-board group is the Federation of State Medical Boards, which publishes guidance for those boards.
Medical-board guidance allows some first visits online when enough information can be gathered to assess and treat you, as of September 2026. The rules differ by state.
In guidance checked in September 2026, the medical-board group says treatment cannot rest only on a set list of online questions and answers. The clinician must be able to follow up on your replies with further questions.
In May 2026, its guidance said the visit must let patients ask follow-up questions of their own.
- Will the clinician read my history and ask more questions?
- How can I ask a question of my own?
- What happens if messages or a call are not enough to assess me?
Will there be tests?
If your assessment needs a test or an exam, the guidance says the clinician must arrange it or send you to another health professional.
- What question would this test answer?
- Would its result change the plan?
- Where will it be done, and who explains the result?
- What would it cost?
Leave with a clear next step.
A prescription is not the only possible topic for the visit. Ask about the options before discussing payment.
- What are the alternatives for this condition?
- Why does this plan fit my history?
- How will we tell whether it is helping?
- Who do I contact with a question between visits?
- When will we review the decision?
